The Standing Committee of Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee has just organized a conference to summarize the implementation of the Instruction No.37 of the Secretariat (9th term) on improving the role and operation quality of Vietnam Journalists’ Association in new period. Khanh Hoa Provincial Journalists’ Association has been proving its role in building and enhancing the cooperation between association’s members.
Improving professional competence of journalists
Khanh Hoa’s Journalists’ Association comprises of 42 members. In recent years, the association’s members have regularly been trained to improve their professional competence and ethics. The journalists and reporters under the provincial Journalists’ Association have worked in accordance with the principles and guidelines; contributed in making Khanh Hoa Newspaper an orthodox information channel connecting the Party and the public, according to Cung Phu Quoc, Secretary of Khanh Hoa’s Journalists’ Association. In the era of strongly developed media, the journalist members of Khanh Hoa’s Journalists’ Association have constantly improved their competence in order to adapt to new trends and keep track of social events to promptly and accurately provide information to the public under the direction of the province, Quoc added.
Tran Minh Thao, member of Khanh Hoa Radio and Television’s Journalists’ Association, said improving the quality of radio and television programs is a must in the current era. The programs need to be a good source of information, entertainment and education for the public. Therefore, the association has paid a special attention on fostering the skills of its members. The association also serves as a useful platform for the members to exchange professional information.
The number of members of Khanh Hoa Provincial Journalists’ Association has increased three times higher than that in 2005. The association now includes seven affiliated branches and two clubs. Apart from professional conferences and workshops, the association often holds and sends members to professional training classes.
Increasingly proving its position
Khanh Hoa Provincial Journalists’ Association has often been encouraged and supported by the province’s authorities. Implementing the Instruction No.37, the association has closely cooperated with other units and organizations to train and enhance the journalism ethics and professional competence of the journalists and reporters; hold numerous practical activities to improve the members’ political and professional level. However, association also needs to better raise the awareness of it role among the members so that the members will engage more actively in the association’s activities.
According to the assessment of Nguyen Tan Tuan, Permanent Deputy Secretary of Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Council, besides the positive results, the provincial Journalists’ Association needs to innovate its operation procedure to uphold more effectively its role and position in the society and communities. The province’s journalists and reporters need to be the pioneers in preventing corruption and negative social issues; the functional agencies need to cooperate closely with each other in orienting public opinion and managing journalism activities; the authorities at all levels need to be open to the reports, opinions and suggestions of the journalists and reporters.
