From viral phenomenon “Ghen Cô Vy”
Animated music video “Ghen Cô Vy” by composer Khac Hung, sang by singers Min and Erik, was released on Youtube on February 23. The song with catchy tune soon went viral with millions of views. The song, based on the popular pop song titled “Ghen” by Khac Hung, is used as a public service announcement advising people not touch their eyes and mouth, avoid large crowd, and wash their hands thoroughly amid Covid-19 pandemic. “Ghen Cô Vy” trend has continued to go viral after Vietnamese dancer Quang Dang choreographed dance moves to the song.
Quang Dang’s TikTok handwashing dance challenge has sparked a lot of people’s interest. Many public dance covers have been made over Vietnam. Dance challenges performed by numerous popular artists in and outside Vietnam popped up on social media, helping to spread a message about coronavirus.

“Ghen Cô Vy” song and Quang Dang’s viral dance even appeared on HBO’s Last Week Tonight hosted by John Olive; was introduced and applauded for their creativeness on the TV shows of France, Australia and South Korea. Most recently, Billboard Magazine included “Ghen Cô Vy” in the list of 10 coronavirus songs that “bring some levity to the global panic”.
From many encouraging music
These days, many new and rewritten songs relating to coronavirus have been uploaded and widely shared on social media. Singer Nguyen Phi Hung wrote “Bao la những trái tim hồng” to express gratitude the doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel who have been being on the front line of the battle against covid-19. The music video featured the performance of many Vietnamese artists such as People’s Artist Ta Minh Tam, Mat Ngoc group, singers Vy Oanh, Que Tran, Nam Cuong, Tung Lam, and actor Quy Binh.
“Ngủ một chút đi anh” is a song depicting the country’s leaders and healthcare staff working hard to curb the pandemic, protect and save lives. The song was composed by To Van and performed by singer Viet Tu. After listening to this song, many people sent grateful thanks and good wishes to the country’s leaders and frontline healthcare workers as well as showed their determination to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
Singer Thai Thuy Linh and principal Nguyen Xuan Khang of Marie Curie School (Hanoi) rewrote popular song namely “Ông bà anh” by songwriter Le Thien Hieu to give strength to people and lift people’s spirit in the fight against covid-19. Song titled “Đánh giặc Corona” of Le Thong Nhat, former lecturer of Vinh University has received a lot of good responses from the music listeners thanks to its high spirited and uplifting lyrics.
Many schools, for example Newton Goldmark Primary School, Ban Mai High School, and Foreign Trade University (Hanoi), also held self-arranged group performances in order to raise awareness of the schools’ staff and students of preventive measures amid Covid-19 outbreak and to instruct students what they should do during schools off days.
More songs and music performances are expected to be released in the upcoming time aiming to encourage and help medical staff and communities to be more optimistic, determined, and united in the fight against Covid-19.
