Many monuments to be renovated
The monuments in Khanh Hoa have existed for a long time; therefore, most of them haven’t been in a good condition. Especially, the 12th storm in 2017 caused damages to many monuments. The provincial Monument Conservation Center carried out survey, assessed the monuments’ conditions and proposed renovations. The center will cooperate with the monuments’ management boards and localities to repair the monuments which have been damaged to a small extent only. The center will provide money extracted from charity funds to renovate monuments with financial difficulties. For the monuments which have been seriously damaged and require large amounts of money, the renovation work will be carried out in order and under provisions of law, according to Nguyen Khac Ha, Director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture and Sports.

Implementing the instruction of Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee and provincial People’s Committee about intensifying the preservation and promotion of historical and cultural heritages’ values, the provincial Department of Culture and Sports made a list of 45 monuments to be restored over the province, with total budget of over VND150 billion. Those include one nation-level monument and 44 province-level ones. 18 listed monuments have been approved to be renovated in 2010 and 2021, namely Dong Nhon Communal House, Thien Hau Hai Nam Shrine, Hung King Temple, Xuan Lac Communal House, Lu Cam Communal House (Nha Trang City), monument to Ba Ngoi provisional revolution People’s Committee, Tra Long Communal House, My Thanh Communal House (Cam Ranh City), Thanh Minh Communal House (Dien Khanh District), Lap Dinh Communal House (Cam Lam District), Ninh Hoa Prefect Quang Dong Communal House, Hoi Dong Shrine, Phap Hai Pagoda, Thanh Chau Communal House, Phong Thanh Communal House (Ninh Hoa Town), Tan My Communal House, and Trung Dong Communal House (Van Ninh District).
Reportedly, the provincial Monument Conservation Center will make an estimate, design, and collect opinions from localities on the restoration of the aforesaid monuments. The center will also work with the monuments’ management boards to reach a consensus on renovation plans; send dossiers to the provincial Department of Culture and Sports for appraisal before proposing the economic-technical renovation reports of each monument to the provincial People’s Committee.
Proper care
Apart from 18 already-listed monuments, Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee also proposed that the provincial People’s Council incorporate Dien Khanh Ancient Citadel and 26 other province-level monuments into the list of public investment from 2012 to 2025. At present, the provincial Department of Culture and Sports is conducting procedures to approve the renovation plan of Dien Khanh Ancient Citadel with total budget estimated at over VND100 billion. The procedures to renovate Truong An Communal House at a cost of VND13.5 billion have also been being conducted. The renovation of 25 other monuments, such as Hon Du Revolutionary Base, Xuan Hoa Communal House, Binh Tay Communal House, Binh Ba Communal House, and Thien Y A Na Temple, costing VND1.2 billion for each monument, will be conducted under the provincial Monument Conservation Center.
The renovation of monuments in Khanh Hoa Province has been cared and carried out effectively in recent years. Many monuments’ values have been brought into play and have contributed to the province’s tradition education and tourism development; and met the need for cultural and religious activities of the public. Clearer and tighter regulations and laws on monument preservation have been made. The province’s approval for using a part of the money from the charity funds of Ponagar Temple to repair and renovate damaged monuments has been helping to tackle financial difficulties.
