Le Van Hoa, Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture and Sports, talked about this project in a recent interview with Khanh Hoa Online.
- This is a necessary project to preserve and highlight one of the intangible cultural heritages of humanity of Vietnam. The art of Bài Chòi which have been practiced in Khanh Hoa Province and many other localities in the central coastal region is among these cultural heritages. When the project is approved, the agencies, organizations, clubs and artists, etc. involving in the practice of Bài Chòi in six districts, towns, and cities across the province will be responsible for complementing the tasks. As a result, the values of Bài Chòi will be preserved and promoted with the contribution from many social resources.
- What are the specific objectives set forth in this project?
- The draft develops synchronous measures to concretize the national target program to introduce, protect and promote Bài Chòi’s values; compose and issue documents about Bài Chòi performance skills of artists; rehabilitate the place to play Bài Chòi in Ninh Hoa Town and develop it into a place for community’s cultural activities. 90 per cent of documents, scripts, musical instruments, costumes and props relating to Bài Chòi heritage are planned to be collected and archived for preserving and displaying at the provincial museum and on the mass media. The project also aims to create conditions for Bài Chòi clubs and artists to perform and teach Bài Chòi and take part in Bài Chòi festivals and contests; incorporate Bài Chòi into the festivals and contests; introduce and promote the values of Bài Chòi through schools’ and tourism activities .

- What are the responsibilities of organizations and individuals after the project is approved?

There are seven main tasks which the relevant organizations and individuals need to carry out to implement the project in 2020-2030 period. In particular, they will introduce Bài Chòi heritage on the mass media with contents and ways suitable to the condition of the localities in the province; restore documents of the art of Bài Chòi; arrange a place for Bài Chòi performances and maintain organizing Bài Chòi shows in Ninh Hoa Town.
- Additionally, the organizations and individuals also need to collect and archive the documents and objects relating to Bài Chòi heritage; organize Bài Chòi shows at schools in Van Ninh District, Dien Khanh District, Cam Lam District, Ninh Hoa Town, Cam Ranh City, and Nha Trang City; conduct researches to improve the preservation and promotion of Bài Chòi’ values; boost the introduction of Bài Chòi to many tourism businesses and tourists in and outside Vietnam.
