In the past years, press agencies, reporters and journalists in Khanh Hoa Province have focused on propaganda and comprehensive reflection of political, socio-economic and security activities in the province.
Khanh Hoa News has an interview with Doan Minh Long, chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial Journalists’ Association about the province’s press activities.
- After the 7th provincial Congress of Khanh Hoa Journalists’ Association (in 2016), the reporters and journalists in the province have tried to carry out well political tasks. They always show stable thought, strong political spirit, ethical qualities and good expertise. The branches under the association have operated in accordance with the principles and purposes. Khanh Hoa press has actively taken part in the fight against corruption and negative issues in socio-economic fields.
The provincial journalists' associations created favorable conditions for reporters and journalists to participate in professional training classes; cooperated with other units to hold six press conferences with diverse and practical topics. Khanh Hoa Radio – Television Station journalism branch made some effective innovations in their activities, producing many quality programs such as Lunar New Year video-conference on the Spratly Island, live broadcast of meeting sessions of the provincial People’s Council, and Nha Trang-Khanh Hoa Sea Festival. These programs were well responded by the public.

Khanh Hoa Newspaper journalism branch promptly reflected and provided the public information about the political and socio-economic activities of the province; improved the content and form of the print and online newspaper, contributing to improve accessibility and traffic to the online newspaper. Its reporters and journalists are always prepared and ready to full fill their tasks in bad circumstances such as storm or epidemic and provide up-to-date information to the public. The journalism branch of other press agencies in Khanh Hoa also proposed many ideas about direction and management on press activities; performed well its roles in social supervision and criticism; and participated actively in the local press and social fields.
- What are the lessons from the association’s activities in recent years?
- The leaderships of the association and its branches have been proactive and paid attention to their operations and safeguarded the rights and legitimate interests of the members. However, there are still some matters in the province’s press activities. For instance, most of the news, articles and reports are still lacking of analyses, commentaries, and suggestions for solutions to solve important problems in social life. The fight against corruption and negative acts has been focused but not yet thoroughly. There have not been many field trips for the journalists and reporters to produce their writing.
We have learned from these matters that the association must always follow the leadership of the Party and the State. Besides, the local authorities need to create necessary conditions for the associations and its members to work effectively. The association's activities need to adhere to the principles, objectives, functions, and tasks; meet the requirements of political education, ideology, and professional ethics; improve expertise and protect the members’ rights and interests. Additionally, the association needs to pay attention to the training for its staff; promote the role, activeness, dynamism and creativity of the leaderships and the close coordination between the leaderships of the association and press agencies; renovate the contents and mode of operation.

- What are the central activities of the association in the future?
- In the coming years, the provincial Journalists’ Association will apply and implement the Resolution of the 11th Congress of Vietnam Journalists’ Association; continue to propagandize and implement the Resolution of the 18th Provincial Party Congress and the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress. The association will also focus on propagandizing and encouraging new elements; participate actively in the fight against corruption and social evils. The press agencies in the province continue to renovate and modernize facilities, information technology and professional operational methods in order to raise the attractiveness of journalism in the new era; build a strong association; and improve the role and prestige of the provincial Journalists’ Association.

In the last tenure, Khanh Hoa Provincial Journalists’ Association proposed admitting 26 new members, bringing the total number of members to 261; offered “For the career of Vietnamese Journalism” campaign medals to 20 members. Every year, the association’s members send their works to the national press ward and national press festival. Khanh Hoa journalists achieved one consolation prize at the national press ward in 2018, one B prize and two consolation prizes in 2019; one A prize and one impressive prize at the national press festival in 2019. The province’s press awards held annually often attracts the interest of many journalists in and outside the province.
