Various majors for students
The recent development of Nha Trang City, one of the major tourist centers in Vietnam, requires a skilled human resource in art fields to meet the entertainment needs of local people and tourists. Besides, the speed of urbanization has brought about the development and boom in construction. People’s knowledge and economic conditions have been increasingly improved, resulting in growing demands in aesthetic, graphic designs, designs of brand identity systems, and so on. Thus, the demand for human resource in arts, graphic design and interior design, etc. has also grown. However, Khanh Hoa is facing the lack of well-trained people in these fields.
Nowadays, there are many disciplines relating to arts and design for young people to study based on their abilities and passions. In the Faculty of Arts of Khanh Hoa University, students can study arts in 11 majors. The music-dance major includes vocal, traditional musical instrument, Western musical instrument, music composition, dancer, and music pedagogy. Fine arts - applied arts major includes painting, printmaking, graphic design, interior design, and art pedagogy.
Focusing on practical experience
Master Nguyen Van Tu - Head of Faculty of Arts of Khanh Hoa University, stated that the current training guideline is focusing on updating students with practical knowledge and vocational skills. Time for practice and practical vocational experience accounts for 80 percent of total curriculum time of all majors of Khanh Hoa University’ Faculty of Arts. Right from the first year, students join many art shows within the framework of cultural and tourism events; gain practical career experience at graphic design, advertising, and interior architecture companies in Nha Trang City; practice with many lecturers and experienced artists throughout the semesters. Therefore, in recent years, the proportion of the Faculty of Arts students (non-pedagogy majors) who can find a job after graduation has reached 95 percent and above.
Additionally, it is also important to cooperate and exchange lecturers and students with fine art schools, music institutes at home and abroad to improve the quality of training. Therefore, Khanh Hoa University's Faculty of Arts regularly exchanges students with a European school of fine arts in Bretagne, France; invites visiting lecturers, who are working in arts centers and units, interior design and advertising companies, to exchange knowledge and teaching experience.
Reportedly, the Faculty of Arts of Khanh Hoa University originated as Phu Khanh Culture-Arts Intermediate School and afterwards Nha Trang Culture-Arts-Tourism College. Over 40 years, the faculty has educated and trained a lot of musicians, singers, dancers, painters, graphic designers, furniture designers, art and music teachers, etc. for Khanh Hoa Province as well as other provinces in the southern central and highland regions. The faculty’s lecturers have been trained in the art schools of the UK, Russia, and Thailand; national music academies and art universities over Vietnam.
