Khanh Hoa provincial library recently held the awarding ceremony of the preliminary round of the “Ambassadors of Reading Culture” contest 2020. Each pupil taking part in the contest has his or her own favorite types of books, and often initiatively arranges his or her daily activities to read books every day. Reading books has provided them useful knowledge of the subjects they are interested in. Nguyen Thi Thu Hang, 4th grade pupil at Dien Phu Primary School (Dien Khanh District), started reading books when she was in 2nd grade and has maintained this habit up to now. She often spends at least 30 minutes every day reading. Her favorite books are children's stories and books about life lessons. Hang took part in the “Ambassadors of Reading Culture” contest 2020 with an emotional story about mother and daughter to remind people to appreciate simple but extremely precious things around them.

Books can be considered as a good friend helping children to love and care about others; nurturing children’s soul and guiding them towards good things. Tran Dang Bao Linh, 8th grade pupil at Ly Thai To Junior High School (Nha Trang), said, “I has maintained my reading habit for over six years. Every time I read a good book, I feel like I have discovered a new land. This is the second time I have joined the contest. Through the contest, I want to share with other pupils my love of reading books. I hope that more people will enjoy reading books.”
The “Ambassadors of Reading Culture” contest is organized annually at national level and provincial level, aiming to promote reading in communities, especially among pupils and students. The contest has helped to propagate the value and benefits of reading. “I won a prize of the 2019 contest. That motivated me a lot to do things to share my interest with others. I often introduce good books on live-streams; share my reviews of books on my Facebook account; talk with other pupils in my school about books,” Vo Thi Kim Hoa, a ninth grader at Thai Nguyen Junior High School (Nha Trang), said.
The preliminary round of the “Ambassadors of Reading Culture” contest 2020 in Khanh Hoa was launched in mid-February and ended at the end of June. This year’s contest received more entries than last year with over 1,000 entries of 1,000 pupils of 42 primary schools, junior high schools, and high schools over the province. However, this number of entrants is too relatively small compared to a total of number of 218,000 pupils of 334 schools at three levels. Nguyen Chau Hung, director of Khanh Hoa provincial library, hopes that the future contests will receive a more active response from the local centers of culture, information and sports and bureaus of education and training in order to effectively promote reading.
