Recently, the Selection Council of the Literature-Art Awards for the period 2016-2020 of Khanh Hoa Province had a meeting and selected 45 outstanding artists and writers, who will be honored this time.
The awards are organized every five years. Khanh Hoa Provincial Association of Literature and Art informed its members about the awards at the end of February. By the end of March, the association had received 72 entries and groups of entries in different fields of literature and art. Five out of 72 entries didn’t meet the criteria of the awards. 67 entries in the fields of literature, fine art, photography, music, and folk music were short-listed for the awards.

The 45 finalists include many popular faces among Khanh Hoa artists and writers, namely screenwriter Nguyen Sy Chuc, painter Bui Van Quang, poet Le Khanh Mai, photographic artist Nguyen Hoai Van, song writers Hinh Phuoc Long and Hinh Phuoc Lien, folk cultural researchers Vo Trieu Duong and Ngo Van Ban, etc. Besides, the final list sees some young faces such as actors Nguyen Son Ha and Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuong.
The selected artists and writers for Khanh Hoa’s Literature-Art Awards, 2016-2020 period, have won high prizes at the Central, regional and provincial contests. For example, in five recent years, screenwriter Nguyen Sy Chuc has won three A prizes of the Literature-Art Awards. Many of his Tuong’s scripts (Vietnam’s classical drama) and Bai Choi’s scripts were honored with high prizes by Vietnam Stage Artists’ Association and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
In music field, the songs of songwriter Hinh Phuoc Long were performed in many music shows in recent years. The musical researches and criticisms of songwriter Nguyen Van Hao have contributed to clarify many issues of music theory. In folk culture, researcher Vo Trieu Duong studied, compiled and produced many meticulous works about the old customs and practices in Ninh Hoa Town, thatched cottages in Khanh Hoa, the ancient rituals and village regulations on funerals Khanh Hoa, ancestor worship in Khanh Hoa in the past and present, etc. Other artists and writers also created many good quality works in the past five years.
The Selection Council of Literature-Art Awards for the period 2016-2020 of Khanh Hoa Province proposed the provincial People’s Committee present six A prizes, twelve B prizes, eighteen C prizes, and six consolation prizes in six fields of literature and art. At the meeting with the Selection Council, Dinh Van Thieu, Vice-Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, stated that the literature-art awards is a way to honor the dedication and contributions of artists and writers who have produced many quality works. The Selection Council members need to review and propose amendments if necessary to the awarding regulations to suit the art activities nowadays.
