The five-year literature-art awarding ceremony of the 2016–2020 period of Khanh Hoa Province was organized recently to acknowledge the contributions of writers and artists in the province. This was also an occasion for the writers and artists to make orientation for the time to come.
Deserved prizes for writers and artists
The impacts of COVID-19 pandemic affected the scale of the awarding ceremony, which was organized in conformity with the regulations on COVID-19 prevention and control. The writers and artists awarded this time have had noticeable contributions to the province’s literature and art. Researcher Vo Trieu Duong have made several researches and compilations on the customs, practices, and daily life of Khanh Hoa people. Many works of photographer Nguyen Hoai Van have been given high prizes in national and international art photo contests. Many Tuong and Bai Choi scripts of screenwriter Nguyen Sy Chuc have been staged by art troupes in Khanh Hoa and other localities. Painter Tran Ha has created artworks that have won high prizes from Vietnam Fine Arts Association. A collection of poems of poet Le Khanh Mai has received high praise from experts and poetry lovers. The research articles, music criticism, and choral songs by musician Nguyen Van Hao have impressed many people.
The 45 prizes given to the writers and artists this time partly recognized their contributions. “I have tried to write good stage scripts, especially the scripts about history. Through the plays, I hope that young generations will learn more about the historical events of the country,” said screenwriter Nguyen Sy Chuc.
More motivation for writers and artists
The 2016–2020 literature-art awards of Khanh Hoa received 72 entries of 72 writers and artists in seven genres. Five entries didn’t meet the criteria of the wards; 67 entries were qualified. Finally, 45 entries of literature, fine arts, photography, theatre, music, and folk art were given prizes, including six prizes A, 12 prizes B, 18 prizes C, and nine consolation prizes.
Khanh Hoa is one of the localities that has both annual literature-art award and five-year literature-art award. This shows the attention of the authorities towards the writers and artists. “When creating a work, I want to express my ideas, feelings, and my abilities. Through the works, I want to convey meaningful messages about life to people. Winning prizes gives me more motivation to create works,” said painter Bui Trung Chinh.
The five-year literature-art awards of the 2016–2020 period were pushed off compared to the original plan due to COVID-19. However, the process of judging and awarding were implemented carefully in accordance with the awards’ regulations. The result of the voting was well received by the jury. Through this year’s awards, the organization committee also acknowledged that there were some works needed to be implemented so that the writers and artists can continue to contribute and create new good quality works in the next five years.
