Paying attention to renovation and preservation
Khanh Hoa has paid attention to preservation and promotion of cultural heritages in the province for many years. In 2021, the provincial Peoples’ Council issued a resolution on Ninh Hoa Prefect House renovation project with the cost of over VND3.4 billion. The provincial Department of Culture and Sports held a seminar on practicing worship of Thien Y A Na Holy Mother in the province; made an inventory of traditional costumes of three ethnic minorities, Raglai, Ede, T’rin, in six districts, towns, and cities over the province; and continue implementing the project on preserving and promoting Bai Choi’s values.
The provincial People’s Committee has also issued and implemented many programs and projects on cultural preservation, such as project on developing Khanh Hoa’s cultural sector until 2020, orientation to 2030; project on preserving and developing culture of Vietnamese ethnic minorities in the province in 2011-2020 period; plan on provide ma la (a traditional music instrument) for 85 hamlets and residential area where Raglai people are living; project on preserving and promoting Whale Worshipping Ceremony; and plan on Bai Choi preservation and promotion.
From 2017 to 2022, the provincial Department of Culture and Sports develops a plan to renovate and prevent degradation of more than 60 monuments. The department is progressing the plan on building road to the grave of Dr. Alexandre Yersin; ranking Ninh Ma memorial site (Van Ninh District); completing the file of C235 Ship memorial site (Ninh Hoa Town); renovating Dien Khanh Ancient Citadel (Dien Khanh District); and publishing book about the worship of Thien Y A Na Holy Mother in Khanh Hoa.
Effectively promoting heritages
The province has propagated and educated people in the province, especially the youth, about cultural monuments and heritages. Since 2017, the provincial Department of Culture and Sports has held contests about cultural heritages at district and city levels. Some historic and revolutionary monuments have become places for history education. Traditional festivals have been solemnly organized, namely Ponagar Festival, Am Chua Festival, and Hung Kings’ Death Anniversary.
The promotion of cultural heritages has also been reflected through the integration with tourism activities. Since 2015, Ponagar Temple and Hon Chong tourist site have attracted around 15 million domestic and international tourists. Admission fees from the two tourism attractions have been used to renovate and preserve the two ones. Reportedly, in the future, the province’s cultural sector will do some research and clarify the values of the cultural heritages in the province; effectively manage, protect, and promote the values of the cultural heritages; renovate and preserve the typical historical and cultural heritages for education and socio-economic development.
Currently, Khanh Hoa has 16 national level monuments, 176 provincial level monuments, and three national level intangible cultural heritages. Especially, Khanh Hoa is among localities having Bai Choi art which were recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
