Impressive orchid contest

On May 21, Khanh Hoa Provincial Ornamental Creature Association and Orchid Branch jointly organized the 2nd Nha Trang-Khanh Hoa Orchid Open Contest 2023. Present at the contest were  Dinh Van Thieu, Deputy Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee; leaders of some provincial departments; and more than 500 artisans and members of orchid clubs and gardens in Khanh Hoa and other localities such as Lam Dong, Ninh Thuan, Long An, Ho Chi Minh City; Kon Tum, and Dak Lak.

This year’s orchid contest received 200 orchid works for competition and 300 other works for display from many artisans and members of well-known orchid clubs and gardens over the country. The contest was a responding activity of Nha Trang-Khanh Hoa Sea Festival 2023. This was also an occasion for the participants to exchange information and experience with each other, show their love for orchid and help to promote orchid movement in Khanh Hoa in particular and the country in general.

Phan Thi Thanh Hien (Da Lat, Lam Dong Province), won the first prize in the category of general orchid with her orchid work which she had taken care of for over five years. This was her second participation in Nha Trang-Khanh Hoa orchid contest. In 20 years planting and taking care of orchids, Hien has won many prizes at many domestic contests, but the 2023 orchid open contest of Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa still aroused emotions in her.

Orchids are a favorite flower of many people because they are not only beautiful but also have high economic value. There are more and more orchid lovers and gardeners. Therefore, besides promoting brands, orchid contests also aim to introduce works of high economic value. Visitors to this year’s orchid open contest could view beautiful orchid works. “Nha Trang-Khanh Hoa Orchid Open Contest 2023 is held in orchid season, so many excellent orchid works have been sent to the contest. The orchid plants have produced beautiful blooms" said Nguyen Trong Luan, an orchid lover from Dien Khanh District.

According to Phan Minh Kinh, chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial Ornamental Creature Association, the contest was well organized although it took place in a short time. The orchid works were displayed in an appropriate arrangement. The entries impressed viewers with their diverse types and eye-catching, vibrant colors.

The jury voted and selected 6 first-prize winners, 6 second-prize winners, 12 third-prize winners, and 35 consolation-prize winners of six categories. At the end of the contest, the prize winners were given certificates of merit of Khanh Hoa Provincial Ornamental Creature Association and gifts of the organization board and sponsors.
