Award-winning works at National Traditional Instrumental Solo and Ensemble Contest 2023 staged for public performances

Khanh Hoa Provincial Traditional Arts Theater and Hai Dang Song and Dance Troupe had staged 12 quality pieces of repertoire for National Traditional Instrumental Solo and Ensemble Contest 2023 taking place in Nha Trang City last June. Many people feel concern about how these works are performed and promoted after the contest.

Many quality entries

Hai Dang Song and Dance Troupe had invited skilled music arrangement and orchestration artists to prepare quality entries for the contest. At the contest, the troupe performed seven performances of traditional musical instruments namely lithophone, 16-chord zither, T’rung, monochord, etc., which were highly appreciated by experts. The troupe won one first prize, two second prizes and two third prizes.

The art program of the Provincial Traditional Arts Theater named “Sound of the land of aloe wood” included five solo performances of 2-chord fiddle, 16-chord zither and ensembles of traditional musical instruments. The young artists of the theater displayed good performances. The hard work of the artists bore fruit with one first prize and one second prize. 

Publicizing entries

 Many people feel concern about how the award-winning works, especially traditional music ones are introduced to the public and promoted after the contests and festivals. In fact, there are many award-winning works haven’t been introduced widely to the public. The reason for this is said to be the difference between the repertoire staged for contests and for public programs. The former are often the musical works of high academic features, while the latter are often emotive and are intended for the vast majority of people.

It is not easy to create a work meeting the rigorous criteria of juries, being suitable for public programs and not wasting the expenditure and effort of the artists and crew members. In National Traditional Instrumental Solo and Ensemble Contest 2023, the Provincial Traditional Arts Theater and Hai Dang Song and Dance Troupe had planned to stage the repertoire in the way which can be performed in their public programs in the future. These entries basically used folk tunes and Bai Choi tunes that can be used in the future new performances of the two units. Besides, these entries can also be used as independent performances suitable for audience in Khanh Hoa and other localities. 

Hai Dang Song and Dance Troupe performed one of their entries in Sea Festival 2023; their other entries have been incorporated in the music shows intended for tourists at the troupe’s building (128 Hoang Van Thu Street, Nha Trang City).
