Director Nguyen Quang Dung always appreciates benevolence of Khanh Hoa people

Director Nguyen Quang Dung is one of the most successful film directors in Vietnam and is known for his characteristic modesty and friendliness. Attending an event held in mid-June, the director expressed his gratitude for the benevolence of Khanh Hoa people.

Memorable memories

Attending the film screening program "Khanh Hoa’s imprint through cinema" at Tran Phu Lotte Cinema, Nha Trang City, director Nguyen Quang Dung told the audience about his memories of making films in Cam Ranh City. In 2010, while trying to find an uncrowded resort or seaside tourist site to shoot his movie “Burning Kisses”, he was introduced to Ngoc Suong tourist site in Cam Ranh City. At that time, this tourist site was just complete, was about to be put into operation and didn’t have many guests yet. Therefore, it was a suitable filming location for the movie of director Nguyen Quang Dung. As said by Dung, the tourist site’s owner was very nice and provided favorable conditions for the filming and film crew. “That time was a good memory in my career, and I still highly appreciate those acts of benevolence,” said director Dung. "Burning Kisses" featured well-known actors and actresses namely Minh Hang, Thanh Hang, Phuong Thanh, Ngoc Trai, Phung Ngoc Huy, etc. and impressed viewers with beautiful scenes and its interesting story. It took top spot at box office in 2010.

In 2012, director Nguyen Quang Dung returned to Cam Ranh to shoot martial arts movie “The Lady Assassin”. The movie landed in cinemas on Lunar New Year 2013, surpassing many other movies to become a hit with revenue of up to VND52 billion just after over half a month of release. This was the highest revenue of a Vietnamese movie recorded at that time. “I have had 2 successful movies shot in Khanh Hoa, so I am very grateful to Khanh Hoa viewers and people, who supported me and the crew. We initiated cooperation between cinema and tourism 10 years ago. At that time, we took the initiative to ask for support from businesses,” said Dung. He is also happy that the local authorities have now paid much attention to the cooperation between cinema and tourism.

Continuing shooting movies in Khanh Hoa 

Director Nguyen Quang Dung is the son of writer Nguyen Quang Sang and is a director with a strong personality. Movie viewers are often interested in the unique features of his movies. Apart from the two aforementioned movies, Dung’s other movies were also popular and brought him prestigious awards.

According to director Nguyen Quang Dung, Nha Trang-Khanh Hoa is very beautiful and has many suitable locations, favorable weather and climate for movie filming. Especially, tourism of Nha Trang-Khanh Hoa develops well, which will be good for connecting tourism and cinema. Tourism and cinema have a mutually supportive relationship. Cinema needs new and unique filming locations; tourism needs promotion. The more successful movies are, the greater the promotion of tourism is.

Talking about his future plans, director Nguyen Quang Dung wants to film his other movies in Nha Trang-Khanh Hoa. It can be “The Lady Assassin 2” or another movie. He has already surveyed some locations in Nha Trang-Khanh Hoa that are very suitable for his future movie projects. Hopefully, audience will continue to support director Nguyen Quang Dung and his movies in the future.
