Spreading love of reading

Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture and Sports recently held the award ceremony of Khanh Hoa’s Reading Culture Ambassador Contest 2023. Each entry with its story helps to spread the love of reading.

Ambassadors of reading culture

The contest ran from the beginning of April to August 15 and received 1,506 entries of the pupils from 89 schools in the province, including 713 entries of primary school pupils, 752 entries of junior high school pupils and 41 entries of high school pupils. Many entries were handwritten and were decorated with eye-catching illustration images; some were designed as 3D postcards.

The entries also showed the entrants’ efforts in retelling stories taken from books and other publications. Through the entries, the pupils wanted to convey and spread their love of reading and express their wishes to promote and develop reading culture in schools and society. For example, in her entry, Truong Bao Ngoc (Thai Nguyen Junior High School, Nha Trang City) suggested forming reading clubs in schools and communities to encourage people to read books. Phan Nguyen Van Anh (Le Hong Phong 1 urban area, Phuoc Hai Ward, Nha Trang City) created a story based on the novel “Nobody's Boy” by Hector Malot. In her story, Remi and some other characters live happy lives. Van Duy Phuc - former literature pupil of Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted (Nha Trang City) chose the book namely Think Equally, Live Equally to express his thoughts. The book ignites hopes for good things in life and helped Duy Phuc gain a deeper understanding of the values of life.

Promoting reading movement

This was the fifth time Khanh Hoa Province has organized Reading Culture Ambassador Contest. The contest has helped to build reading movement in schools and attracted the interest and participation of many schools. Many schools in the province often encourage their pupils and provide them support to prepare for the contest.

The reading culture ambassador contest is organized annually to build reading habits and skills for pupils; nurture an appreciation for reading and promote reading movement among young people; and contribute to the development of reading culture in schools and communities. This year’s contest allowed the entrants to choose their favorite books and subjects to convey. This encouraged the creativity and investment of the participants in their works.

Reportedly, the Provincial Library will promote advertisements for the contest before, during and after the contest and change the organizational methods to ensure the contest’s standards but still encourage entrants’ creativity.
