Khanh Vinh District People's Committee organized Water God worshiping ceremony of Ede people at Khanh Hiep Commune on July 30.

The Water God worshiping ceremony is a custom and an important religious ritual of Ede people, usually taking place after the harvest to thank the Water God for bringing good luck throughout the year and to pray for favorable weather, good crops and clean water for the community.

Prior to the opening of the ceremony, the village elders  assign tasks to the villagers such as cutting bamboo, firewood, etc. to build village gate; making offerings; cleaning village roads, water wharfs; and practicing gongs and traditional dances.

 

At the ceremony, the participants performed the rituals of Water God worshiping ceremony at wharf and communal house; performed traditional music; played folk games; enjoyed traditional food.

The activity aimed to preserve and further promote the traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities in Khanh Vinh District.
