Joyful summer through books

For nearly the past month, Khanh Hoa Provincial Library has always been crowded with pupils reading books and enjoying joyful activities jointly organized by the library and some organizations and individuals. Through these activities, the pupils have experienced a useful and joyful summer.

Attracting little readers

Since the start of summer vacation, Minh Thu’s mother (Vo Thi Sau Street, Nha Trang City) takes Thu to the Provincial Library every morning to help her make a hobby of reading books. Visiting the library regularly is helping Thu learn useful knowledge from books and spend relatively lesser time on electronic devices.  "I like coming to the Provincial Library to read books because this place is airy and quiet, and there are many kinds of interesting books. Sometimes, I can participate in some fun activities or small competitions. Thanks to coming to the library, I have some new friends," said Quynh Anh (Phuoc Hai 1 Primary School, Nha Trang City).

The children's reading room of the Provincial Library has become a favorite place of many young readers. Nguyen Thu Trang (Muong Thanh Vien Trieu building) often takes her children to the children's reading room, especially on summer vacation to read books because she feels secure that the books here are carefully selected for children. According to Le Thi Phuong Anh, deputy head of the library’s reader service department, on summer vacation, the children's reading room receives about 150 readers/day on weekdays and about 250 readers/day on weekends. Currently, the children's reading room has 59,230 copies of more than 20,000 books of science, literature, life skills; encyclopedias; reference books, books for preschool children, foreign language books, etc.

Many interesting activities

From June 5 to August 21, the Provincial Library organizes different summer activities for children under the theme "Exciting summer through every page of books 2024". Accordingly, on Wednesdays of the first and third weeks of every month, the library holds useful activities, such as playing physical games and games to learn about animal worlds from books; exchanging with writers of children books; practicing fire escape skills and how to prevent fire and explosion; practicing storytelling skills; and playing science games.

“I really like playing game about ocean world because I can show my knowledge and receive gifts. Coming to the library, I have enjoyable time and can meet many friends. I really like it," said Nguyen Van Phong (Vinh Nguyen 1 Primary School, Nha Trang).

The library has cooperated with some organizations and individuals to carry out the series of activities "Exciting summer through every page of books 2024" with different topics; introduced and promoted the activities via the library’s social media sites in order to attract more and more young readers. Through these summer activities, the library wants to create a useful and practical playground for pupils during the summer and partly help to promote reading movement among pupils, according to Dinh Thi Ninh Trang, director of the Provincial Library.
