The awarding ceremony of the Golden Kite Awards 2024, jointly organized recently by Vietnam Cinema Association, Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee and Vega City Joint Stock Company (KDI Holdings Group) at Do Theater (Nha Trang City) captured the attention of many Vietnamese and international artists. This is the third year the event has been organized in the coastal city of Nha Trang, which provided an occasion for Nha Trang-Khanh Hoa to attract tourists.
Creating attraction
The event attracted a lot of people despite some rain at the beginning of the event. This year, the awarding ceremony had 163 entries, including 4 theoretical research and film criticism works, 14 animated films, 18 feature films, 18 television series, 50 short films, 41 documentaries, and 18 scientific films. The entries were diverse in topics such as revolutionary war history, social psychology, and depictions of the hidden sides of human nature. In addition to state-commissioned films, there were also films produced by private studios and independent art films. The fact that the 2024 Golden Kite Awards attracted a large number of entries and film-makers proved the attraction of the awards, according to Associate Professor, PhD Do Lenh Hung Tu, Chairman of Vietnam Cinema Association.
At the awarding ceremony, Vietnam Cinema Association announced and presented the Golden Kite awards for the winners of each category. Feature film “Mai” won the Golden Kite in 4 categories: Best Feature Film, Best Actress, Best Screenwriter and Best Art Design. Actress Phuong Anh Dao (playing Mai in the aforementioned film), who won the award for the best actress in feature film category, considered the award as a recognition of her efforts and a driving force to help her be more enthusiastic in her career. The 2024 edition of Golden Kite Awards introduced the category namely Most favorite male and female television actor and actress voted by the audience on TikTok.

Before the awarding ceremony, the representatives and artists participated in the red carpet event at the square of Do Theater – Libera Nha Trang. The organizing committee launched a campaign to raise funds for the people heavily affected by Typhoon Yagi. The representatives also unveiled 30 new stars on the Wall of Fame, representing the artists and works that won the 2023 Golden Kite Awards.
Contribute to the promotion of Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa’s image
The successful organization of Golden Kite Awards 2024 contributed to the promotion of Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa’s image. Actress and film producer Mai Thu Huyen hopes that in the near future, Nha Trang will become a film city in Vietnam and will attract many domestic and international film crews. Cinematic works can be an excellent medium for promoting and developing local tourism, culture and society.
The awarding ceremony was also attended by many international guests from the United States, South Korea, India, Azerbaijan, etc. who came to explore film locations and seek opportunities for collaborative filmmaking in Vietnam. Producer, director, and actress Aaditrie Dipika from India was very impressed with Vietnam, its people and scenery. She believes that in the future, there will be collaborative films between Vietnam and India. She herself is considering and hopes to have the opportunity to make films in Vietnam.

Recently, Khanh Hoa has successfully organized many cultural and sports events to attract tourists, including the awarding ceremony of Golden Kite Awards, which provided the province’s tourism sector opportunities to meet with and introduced the province’s typical and unique attractions and cultural features to famous filmmakers, directors and artists.
As said by Nguyen Tan Tuan - Deputy Secretary of Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - the Golden Kite Awards 2024 is an important milestone, marking new steps of progress of Vietnam’s cinema. The increasing number of entries and their improving quality prove the continuous development of the domestic film industry.
