Miss Earth Phuong Khanh hopes to do more good things for fishermen

Nguyen Thi Phuong Khanh is the first beauty queen of Vietnam crowned Miss Earth - one of the 6 prestigious beauty pageants in the world.  She won the pageant in 2018. Phuong Khanh recently participated in a meaningful program intended for fishermen in Khanh Hoa Province.

Phuong Khanh finished 2nd in Miss Sea Vietnam Global 2018 and was chosen to represent Vietnam at Miss Earth 2018. After a 1-year term as Miss Earth, Phuong Khanh returned to her studies and business. She is one of the few beauty queens who did not choose a career in showbiz but decided to accompany organizations and groups that focus on activities benefiting communities.

In April 2023, Phuong Khanh accepted the invitation to be the ambassador for program “Lighting up the sea with fishermen” launched by Laws Newspaper. Phuong Khanh has accompanied the program to 16 provinces and cities over the country including Ho Chi Minh City, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Bac Lieu, Ben Tre, Tien Giang, Kien Giang, Thai Binh, Thanh Hoa, Quang Tri, Quang Binh, Da Nang, Quang Ngai, Phu Yen, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan and Khanh Hoa. In the near future, Phuong Khanh will continue to visit the other 12 coastal provinces and cities in the country. "I am deeply honored to be the ambassador for program “Lighting up the sea with fishermen”. This is a humanitarian program with practical value, as each gift from the program is essential for fishermen in their journeys to the sea. Moreover, the handbook about fishing provided by the program will help enhance the fishermen's knowledge on conducting fishing activities in accordance with the law. Personally, I always aspire to do meaningful things for fishermen in order to help alleviate the hardships and challenges faced by the people in coastal localities," said Phuong Khanh.

According to Miss Phuong Khanh, in order to get IUU yellow card removed, it requires focusing on educating fishermen, especially young fishermen, to fully understand their sense of responsibility during fishing at sea as well as in protecting the nation's sea and island sovereignty. Phuong Khanh also pays much attention to environmental protection, especially the marine environment. Playing her role as Miss Earth, she has personally carried out many environmental protection projects, including those related to marine environment. She hopes that more organizations and individuals will join hands in preserving marine and island environment, making them cleaner and safer.

The visit to Nha Trang City to participate in the aforementioned program left Phuong Khanh with a good impression for the development of the city, its preserved landscape and hospitality of local people. She hopes that the local authorities and people will pay more attention to preserving and protecting marine environment. According to Phuong Khanh, one of the solutions to protect environment is creating sustainable and environmentally friendly source of livelihood and continuously improving the quality of life of fishermen.

Hopefully, through Phuong Khanh’s activities, more and more fishermen will be more knowledgeable and raise their responsibilities in fishing; strictly comply with laws to contribute to the protection of the nation’s sea and island environment.
