In 1328, during a business trip to the southern area, Tran Dynasty Navy Admiral Le Van Dat discovered salanganes nest caves in the sea area of Binh Khang (known as Khanh Hoa Province today) and issued a command to protect, exploit and develop this valuable resource. Later, his 21st generation descendant namely Le Van Quang and Le Thi Huyen Tram (Quang’s daughter) made great contributions to the salanganes nest industry. In 1973, Le Thi Huyen Tram and her father died in the fight to protect the sovereignty of the nation’s territorial waters and the salanganes islands. Since then, local people have honored Tram as Holy Mother and built temples to worship her on the salanganes nest islands. On the 10th day of the 5th lunar month, local people organize a festival on Hon Noi Salanganes Nest Island to commemorate the great merits of Le Thi Huyen Tram and the predecessors who founded and developed the salanganes nest industry. Today, Salanganes Nest Festival has become one of the traditional festivals in Khanh Hoa.
