Exciting lion-unicorn-dragon competition in Nha Trang City

The ongoing 29th lion-unicorn-dragon competition of Nha Trang City is joined by 16 teams from communes and wards in the city. With unique, attractive and beautiful performances, the competition is bring a joyful and exciting atmosphere to welcome the approaching Lunar New Year 2025 in the coastal city of Nha Trang.

The 29th lion-unicorn-dragon competition of Nha Trang City takes place at 2-4 Square. The opening ceremony and first performances attracted a lot of local people and tourists. Vo Thi Anh Nguyet (Vinh Hai Ward) always takes her daughter to lion-unicorn-dragon competitions to enjoy the feeling of excitement and bustling atmosphere of Tet.

For overseas Vietnamese who have been abroad for a long time like Bui Thi Viet Ha (living in Germany), lion-unicorn-dragon performances provide many memorable moments and special feelings. Seeing Tet lion-unicorn-dragon dances after 40 years brought back many of Ha’s childhood memories. 

8 teams out of 16 teams take part in the most difficult event namely “mai hoa thung” on the last day of the competition. Reportedly, in order to perform the difficult moves of “mai hoa thung”, the players need to have martial art skills and practice hard. 

The lion-unicorn-dragon competition is a traditional activity of Nha Trang City, starting the city’s series of cultural, art and sports events celebrating Lunar New Year. This is also an opportunity for local lion-unicorn-dragon teams and clubs to exchange, learn and strengthen solidarity, preserve and promote national cultural traditions. This year, 16 teams perform 35 lion-unicorn-dragon performances in 3 days from January 13 to 15.
