Ponagar Temple recognized as special national monument

Ponagar Temple is one of the five monuments that have recently been recognized as special national monument. The other four monuments are Boi Khe Pagoda (Thanh Oai District, Hanoi); Xam Temple (Nam Truc District, Nam Dinh Province); cluster of monuments related to the Mac Dynasty in Duong Kinh (Kien Thuy District, Hai Phong City); and Tu Luong Xam cluster of monuments  - Ngo Quyen's headquarters in 938 (Hai An District, Hai Phong City).

Ponagar Temple located in Vinh Phuoc Ward (Nha Trang City), was ranked as a national monument in 1979. The temple was built by Cham people on Cu Lao Hill from the 8th to the 13th century to worship Goddess Ponagar, Land Mother of Cham people. Ponagar Temple consists of the gate temple, Mandapa and the area of towers. However, over many years, 5 architectural works of the monument, Mandapa and area of towers, remain.

The construction technique and method of making bricks to build Ponagar Temple are very unique; some of them have still remained unknown. The monument also features steles introducing the monument made in the feudal period.

Ponagar Temple is the venue of Ponagar Temple Festival, a national intangible cultural heritage, taking place from lunar March 20 to 23. Ponagar Temple has become a famous tourist attraction, attracting a lot of tourists in Nha Trang City.
