The 2025 edition of flower boat festival and boat race on Dinh River, an annual cultural and sports event of Ninh Hoa Town on the first days of Lunar New Year, took place on Dinh River (from Chi Tru Dam to Sat Bridge) on February 5 (lunar January 8). The event featured the presence of Dinh Van Thieu, Deputy Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, and leaders of some provincial departments, sectors, and Ninh Hoa Town.

Thousands of local people and tourists gathered on both sides of Dinh River to see the event and cheered for the teams. The event included 2 competitions: flower boat parade and traditional boat race. The flower boat parade had 28 boats representing 26 communes in Ninh Hoa and 2 businesses namely Ninh Hoa Urban Joint Stock Company and Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) - Khanh Hoa Branch.
The boats were decorated with colorful flags, different types of flowers and floral sculptures of dragons and snakes, the zodiac animal of 2025. On each flower boat, there were a man and a woman in Ao Dai or traditional Vietnamese costume namely “ba ba”. The images of brightly- decorated flower boats with the red color of the national flags beautified Dinh River. “This is the first time I have seen the flower boat festival and boat race on Dinh River. The festive atmosphere is lively. The flower boats parading on the river are beautiful. As a local, I think that this event held on the first days of Lunar New Year creates joyful atmosphere and helps to preserve the cultural beauty of the locality,” said Trinh Ngoc Vinh (Tuan Thua Hamlet, Ninh Binh Commune).

The boat race followed the flower boat parade. More than 70 people took part in 3 events of men’s singles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles. The contestants with good rowing techniques performed their skills, enthusiasm and high determination on a stretch of river longer than 600m. Reportedly, the teams had practiced in a week prior to the race. “Rowing these boats is not difficult because they are our daily means of transportation. However, it requires more skills, tactics and good cooperation among teammates to achieve high results," said rower Dang Ty (Ninh Loc Commune).

As reported by Phan Hai Thoai, deputy chairman of Ninh Hoa Town People's Committee, this is the 12th edition the flower boat festival and boat racr on Dinh River. This event has become an annual cultural activity in Ninh Hoa every Lunar New Year. Through the event, the locality wants to introduce the images and traditional cultural beauty of Ninh Hoa and make the event a typical tourism product of the town on Lunar New Year occasion.

The flower boat festival and boat race is a very meaningful activity as they both preserve the traditional cultural beauty of the local people and contribute to the development of tourism in the town, according to Dinh Van Thieu, Deputy Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee. He hopes that Ninh Hoa Town will maintain this activity and increasingly expand its scale and diversify ways of organization to attract more localities, units and businesses.
