In 1803, King Gia Long issued an edict to establish Dien Khanh Temple of Literature in Phu Loc, Hoa Chau District, Binh Hoa Town (now Dien Khanh Commune, Khanh Hoa Province) to worship Confucius and his outstanding students as well as those who contributed to confucianism. The temple was moved to another location due to floods and landslides after that and was restored at its current location in 1959. Some stone steles recording the history of the monument’s establishment and a list of famous scholars and dignitaries from the beginning of the Nguyen Dynasty to the Tu Duc period are being preserved at Dien Khanh Temple of Literature.

Every year, traditional ceremonies are held at Dien Khanh Temple of Literature to commemorate Confucius's birthday and death anniversary. Activities to encourage and promote local students’ studiousness are also held here.
