Jumps in the price of motorbikes make customers confused. |
In recent time, motorbike shops on Quang Trung Street, Thong Nhat Street and Tran Quy Cap Street (Nha Trang City) have been less crowded. Accordingly to the shop owners, the purchasing power has remained like months ago, but the retail prices of motorbike have increased sharply in spite of sufficient supply.
Although Air Blade and Lead “fever” have not cooled, Khanh Hoa Province has seen a high jump in the retail prices of motorbikes. The price of Lead silky yellow and pink models rockets 1 million VND or higher/ motorbike. The retail prices of models of Honda Vietnam motorbikes are 300,000-7 million VND higher than the price announced by producers. The most expensive is black Air Blade FI (39.5 million VND) and red Air Blade FI (38.5 million VND), an increase of 7 million VND/motorbike. The price of Lead models has decreased slightly at 34 million VND/ motorbike. The Lead has black, candy lucid red, cosmic silver metallic and pearl silky white colors available for customers’ choice.
At the Yamaha showroom on Ly Thanh Ton Street (Nha Trang), 135cm3 Nouvo motorbikes are sold for 32.5 million VND/motorbike, up by 3 million VND. The prices of Wave and Sirius models are also up by 1-2 million VND/ motorbike. Wave models have increased to 10 million VND/ scooter. A Piaggio Vietnam’s Vespa LX model is up to 60 million VND. The price of New SYM’s Shark, which made its debut in late July, is up by 2 million VND/ scooter compared with the announced price.
A customer at the Honda showroom on the corner of Ly Tu Trong and Quang Trung (Nha Trang) said, “I like the Air Blade, but it’s quite expensive. I will have a decision after having a look at some other shops.” The prices of many scooter models have been pushed up to unreasonably high levels. An agent at Tan Van Shop, Quang Trung Street said, “Maybe, the increasing demand has driven up the price.”
In fact, there is no shortage of supply. In the first seven months of 2009, the number of scooters launched into the market has increased over the same period last year. HVN has brought over 700 motorbikes into market. The fact has shown that the supply is sufficient. According to an agent on Thong Nhat Street, the situation is due to soaring market prices. This is maybe a logical reason.
