Industrial growth rate of Cam Ranh Township in the period of 2006 – 2009 overfulfilled its target. It was owning to right investment policies and the local authority’s support.
° Good growth rate
Cam Ranh is a potential township to develop industry. It is also one of three key economic areas of Khanh Hoa Province. During the past years, industry has been considered as a main trade to forward economic growth. Therefore, the township’s authority always creates good conditions for industrial enterprises. Over four years, the township has 313 new industrial enterprises with a total investment of 1,105.7 billion, creating jobs for 4,025 laborers. Especially, there are many new industries such as coffee processing, wood processing, handicraft production and building material production. Industries have brought stable jobs and income for laborers in the township and contributed much to its economic growth and transfer.

Each year, Cam Ranh Vocational Training School provides more than 1,000 laborers trained at primary and intermediate levels to ensure a human resource for industry. Accordingly, more and more rural laborers have skills and have been recruited to factories. During the past four years, with a right investment, Cam Ranh Township has an average growth rate of 22%/annum, 2% higher than the target. The industrial production value of the township in 2009 made a 2.06 time increase over 2005. The industrial structure has trended to expand the State-own industrial sector and the foreign-invested one. Specifically, over four years, the State-own and foreign-invested industrial sectors have made up 36.4% in the district’s industrial structure and portion of non-State sector has decreased from 100% to 63.6%.
° New chances
At present, Cam Ranh Township has many big projects of industrial production and industrial zone. For instance, Cam Ranh Ship Building Factory, whose first stage has been activated with an investment of VND604 billion, is planning to build up its second stage worth VND3,000 billion or Cam Ranh Cement Factory with a capacity of 500,000 tones per year will be put into operation in end April, 2010.
Besides this, in its industry developing strategy, Cam Ranh Township will set up two industrial zone, one in the south and another in the north. The southern one will focus on clean production such as textile garment and electronic product assembly while the northern one will develop a lot of trades such as ship building and machine production. These industrial zones are expected to bring high economic values for Cam Ranh District as well as Khanh Hoa Province.
Cam Ranh targets at a growth rate of 17% per year in its industrial production value. In the time to come, the district will forward main industries more, including ship building and repair, electronic mechanics, seafood processing for export, wooden furniture and handicrafts for export, farm product processing and material building manufacture.
