In a recent conference themed “Training human resource, raising competition for small and medium-sized businesses in tourism”, held by Yasaka-Saigon-Nhatrang Hotel Training Center many businesses committed that Vietnam’s tourism is lacking skillful laborers. To attract tourists, tourism needs professional staffs beside new tourist products.
There’s a lack of human resource for tourism in Khanh Hoa Province. Additionally, the human resource often changes when more and more tourist businesses open. Many workers can move from their working place to another which pays them higher salary. Besides, skill and level of many workers in tourism are not really professional and they are rather week at foreign languages.
Nguyen Thi Thanh Trang, personnel manager of Diamond Bay Resort & Golf said, “Demand for labor in tourism is rising more and more but recruitment of qualified laborers is not difficult. When a hotel or resort opens, it surely meets a lot of difficulties in recruitment in the initial time. To satisfy tourists, businesses have to spend a lot of time and money to train their staff.”
Dong Luong Son, General Director of Yasaka-Saigon-Nhatrang Hotel said, “The labor market now is very competitive and changeful. Therefore, training is important. It’s a frequent activity of Yasaka-Saigon-Nhatrang Hotel. The hotel not only trains new laborers for tourism but often opens periodical courses for the older staff.”

Other hotels such as Vinpearl, Novotel, Sunrise and Ana Mandara have a specific department to training employees because most just-graduates have no practice skill.
When there are more and more big tourist businesses in Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa like now, small businesses are facing with losing employees, which makes the labor market more competitive.
Experiences in training human resource show that businesses need pay attention to training soft skills such as effective communication, situation handling, customer service and working in groups.
