In recent years, backpacking has become more and more popular for young people. Backpacking can help teenagers to be more mature, self-confident and hone their independence.

Backpacking is a form of low-cost, independent travel. Far more than a way of traveling, it’s a way of looking at and discovering the world. It teaches young people to survive in an occasionally tough and alien environment. A couple of years ago, backpacking used to be quite new to Vietnamese people. Now, it has become more and more popular for young people who can organize their own domestic and international tours.

Da Lat, Hon Ba and provinces of the central highland are considered great places for backpackers. “Backpacking is cost saving, suiting my limited budget,” Duong Quynh Nga, a student of College of Culture, Art & Tourism said adding that, “It makes us more active and mature and promotes the understanding among us as well.”

Backpacking as a lifestyle and as a business has grown considerably as the commonplace of low-cost airlines, hostels or budget accommodation. Many people have shared experience and information about their independent tours such as low-cost airlines, restaurants, hostels or budget accommodation on internet forums. Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa, is also a great vacation place for backpacking. Hon Ba and Mui Doi, Hon Dau in Khanh Hoa are considered alluring destinations for back-packers.

It’s so wonderful to spend a night outdoors surrounded by fog on a natural carpet of green grass,” said a young traveler from Ho Chi Minh City. Hon Ba is attractive for its height while Hon Dau is a popular tourist destination as it is the easternmost land of the country. Coming here, packers will have a great experience of conquering nature. To get well-prepared for the trip to Mui Doi, backpackers have to bring a global positioning system (GPS). Some backpackers have failed to climb over mounts or cross rivers because of the fear of heights and seasick. However, the challenges can not prevent young people from discovering the nature. Backpacking can also bring a good chance to enhance overall health and socialization.
