| The mutual support has helped many women’s businesses thrive. |
Van Ninh Women’s Association has run many practical support programs to raise women’s income. 1, 612 women have been given VND845 million support to invest in their business. In addition, the association has also guaranteed 5,095 loans with a balance of VND53 billion from the Bank for Social Policies and the Bank for Agriculture & Rural Development to invest in vocational training and clean water works.
Besides, the association has opened technology transfer courses. Many women have applied advanced technology in their work and gained great success. Nguyen Thi Mai, Chairperson of Van Ninh Women’s Association said, “The association has mobilized the richer to help the poorer. Ngo Thi Thanh, a poor women, said, “A VND2 million loan offered from the association has helped my family to start business. Now we can afford my children’s schooling. I am very grateful and I will give support to other poor women in return.”
Moreover, from 2006 to 2008, 25 houses were built and 16 others were repaired thanks to the association’s housing fund. VND125 million went to the construction of 8 houses and repair of 2 others in 2009. 130 saving books worth VND35 million have been offered to beneficiaries of social welfare. The association has also given support to orphan children, lonely old people and poor patients.
The number of members have increased year by year. Women has become more confident and their role has been promoted. Mai said, “The association has provided law and government policies for women. It has helped many women’s businesses thrive and thus improved their living standard.”
