Women’s Union of Cam Ranh Town, Khanh Hoa Province have helped over 700 poor families to escape from poverty through many practical activities and campaigns over the past 5 years (2006 - 2010).

Women’s Union of Cam Ranh Town has 18,000 members, many of whom have suffered from financial difficulties caused by the economic downturn together with epidemic in agriculture and aquaculture over the past few years. Leaders of the Women’s Union has held many practical activities for women to help them overcome the difficulties to raise their income. The Cam Ranh Women’s Union has guaranteed loans given by the Bank for Social Policies and the Bank for Agriculture & Rural Development.
6,400 women have been offered loans since 2006 from many funds with a balance of VND60 billion to invest in business. The union has taken full advantage of charity programs geared to women to improve their living standard. It has also enhanced the management to assure effective use of the loans. Besides technology transfer courses, mutual aid campaigns have been launched among women.
As many as 700 poor women have succeeded in production and business expansion and their life has much improved. Ngo Thi Tuyet (Quang Hoa Village, Cam Thanh Nam Commune) and Thach Thi Thuy Ngan (Phu Thinh, Cam Phu Ward) have earned a huge profit from raising wild chicken and pigs. The union has contributed greatly to poverty alleviation. 700 families have escaped from poverty,” said Phan Thi Minh Ly, Chairperson of Cam Ranh Women’s Union.
