Halloween, an annual holiday observed on October 31 and originated from the West, has entered Vietnam in recent years. Vietnamese young people welcome and consider it as a night of masquerade. Halloween atmosphere also can be seen in Nha Trang these days.

In main streets in Nha Trang such as Nguyen Trai, Ngo Gia Tu and Thong Nhat, there are many shops selling  a lot of Halloween costumes and terrifying things. At Van Hien Shop in Ngo Gia Tu Street, I met a group of high-school pupils choosing strange and thrilling masks. Linh Anh, one of them, said, “We will hold a Halloween party with a masquerade contest. The most impressive masquerade will get an award. Therefore, we have been seeking for strange costumes and masks during the week.”

Young people masquerade for Halloween.

In comparison with last year, Nha Trang market this year has more Halloween things, especially masks. An impressive mask costs VND45,000 – VND80,000. Halloween costumes, which are traditionally modeled after monsters such as ghosts, skeletons, witches, and devils, are available in shops. There also are costumes of princess, queen or cosplay for those who like them. Simple masquerade with only horns or Romeo and Juliet masks are chosen by many people. In addition, there are funny costumes to bring more joys to the Halloween night.

Tourists who come to Nha Trang on this occasion can spend an interesting Halloween at night clubs, hotels or some other places like Sailing Club and Louisana Restaurant. Guests of such places will be disguised and take part in a masquerade and party. Foreign tourists can find a real Halloween in Nha Trang.
