Up to this time, crops of agriculture and forestry in Khanh Son District, Khanh Hoa Province have been completed basically. With a high production and stable cost prices of farm products, it’s possible to say that agriculture and forestry of the district this year have grown better than previous years.

In 2010, under the plan of the district and Price Subsidy Program of the province, farmers in Khanh Son have planted 25,000 jackfruit trees (125 hectares) and 6,500 durians (32 hectares). This also is the time big durian growers in the district have applied mass harvest method instead of waiting till durians fall. This method will be popularized in following crops, which will be of much benefit to growers as well as sellers. Also in this year, the district has planted 500,000 rattans (9.5 hectares) which promise to earn a great profit in next years. Additionally, cultivation of mangosteens and rambutans has been expanded by over 10 hectares.

Purple sugarcane area in Khanh Son District rises sharply this year.

These days, farmers in Khanh Son Province are harvesting last parts of the Summer – Autumn wet rice crop and corn. Rice productivity of this crop is 30 – 35 quintals/hectare while high-yield corn got 32 – 35 quintals/hectare. Owning to the rather equal production and the high purchase price (VND4,600 – VND5,000/kg), corn planters have earned profits.

Beside 90 hectares of yellow sugarcanes, purple sugarcane area in the district has increased sharply this year. The purple sugarcane area of the district now is 300 hectares while the figure was 200 hectares in the first six months of the year.

Afforestation has also been focused on. 349.8 hectares of forest has been formed according to 132 Program and 440 hectares of Acacia trees has been grown under 147 Program.

In general, up to this time, Khanh Son District has exceeded its targets in agriculture and forestry. However, it is still suffering some difficulties such as the unstable prices of farm products and goods, the weakness of scientific and technical application to production and the bad infrastructures of the rural area.
