Confectionery market gets busy as Tet (Lunar New Year Festival) approaches. Domestic products sell well thanks to high quality and low price.

Confectionery for Tet this year sees a domination of local products. Vietnamese brand names such as Kinh Do, Huu Nghi and Bibica make up 80 – 90% the market.

Domestic big companies now have modern lines and good materials to manufacture high-quality products. Locally-made confectionery also are delicious, good-looking and hygienic. Moreover, their prices are far lower than imports. For example, with the same weight and quality, a box of local cookies is priced between VND31,000 – VND77,000 while a box of imported ones is selling between VND45,000 – VND110,000.

Local confectionery products make much improvement in quality and design.

Lots of high-grade products

Especially, the market this year has a lot of high-grade confectionery products.

Kinh Do’s top-ranking products are Korento cookies, produced on Japanese line and present box called Huong Xuan, including Kinh Do confectionery and black dragon brown tea. Kinh Do also has many kinds of cookies with butter, chocolate or fruit jam.

Bibica Company sells cookies and cakes with many flavors such as cashew nut, coconut, milk and chocolate under brand names Goodies, Palomino, Lucky and Victory.

Huu Nghi Company launches new brand names, including Picpic milk, Picpic strawberry, Salsa and Suri candy.

 

Price goes up by 10 - 15%

In comparison with last year, confectionery price this year increases by 10 – 15% due to the rises of sugar and wheat flour. For example, Huu Nghi’s Roses cookies cost VND78,000/350g box, Kinh Do cookies at VND89,000/700g box, Bibica at VND63,000/350g box and Gold Rose candies at VND62,000/250g box.

The soar in USD/VND exchange rate also has put up price of confectionery imported from France, Thailand and Malaysia. Tet approaches more, the confectionery market will get more bustling with their increasing prices.
