From the beginning of the year up to now, fishermen in Hon Ro, Nha Trang have a bumper crop of fish.
During three months so far this year, owning to the favorable weather, fishing in Hon Ro has got better. The number of sea-going trips rises. Around 10 – 15 fishing boats land Hon Ro Port on average each day. Fishermen from Hon Ro do fishing mainly in waters of Khanh Hooa Province and neighbouring provinces such as Phu Yen, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai and Binh Thuan. Depending on the weather and distances, a sea-going trip lasts 1 – 2 days, 5 – 10 days or 15 – 35 days. The fishing boats often put out to the sea on 2 – 3 p.m and return on 3 – 4 a.m.

Hon Ro Port always sees a busy atmostphere of collecting, transporting and trading fresh fish. Small kinds like tuna, anchovy, marlin,...are put in plastic baskets or foam boxes. Bigger ones need 2 – 3 people to carry.
From the beginning of the year to March 20, 1,900 tons of fish has been caught, a 10% increase year-on-year. With 85 tons, tuna makes up 3/5 of the total yield.
The bumper crop of fish has raised fishermen’s income. Nguyen Tan Son, the owner of KH-90389TS, happily said, “My boat has gone fishing twice around Spratly so far this year and caught more than 30 tons of fish. After deducting expenses, I get a profit of VND150 million.”
Fish price now increases by 10 – 15% over 2010. At Hon Ro Port, tuna is selling at VND23,000 – VND30,000/kg, mackerel at VND70,000 – VND100,000/kg, pomfret at VND60,000 – VND65,000/kg and scad at VND30,000 – VND40,000/kg.
Fishermen in Hon Ro are excited with their good harvest of fish. They continue going to the sea for fishing trips.
