Khanh Son Durian, a speciality of Khanh Hoa Province, has just been granted a certification as exclusive trademark.
Durians grown in Khanh Son are great favorite of consumers owning to their good quality. However, sometimes some sellers cheat buyers by other products, which has caused doubts about the quality of Khanh Son Durian. Trademark registration is considered as a solution to this situation.

“With a determination to confirm Khanh Son Durian trademark and build it as a key farm product hunger elimination, poverty reduction and socioeconomic development, the district has started expanding area and invest in science and technology to improve durians since 2005. In 2007, the district made a plan to register exclusive trademark for Khanh Son Durian. In 2009, we submitted it to the National Intellectual Property Office”, said Vice-chairman of Khanh Son People’s Committee Nguyen Quoc Thinh.
Khanh Son Durian is the first farm product in Khanh Hoa Province registering for an exclusive trademark, therefore quality assessment has been done strictly and carefully. The provincial Department of Science and Technology coordinated with the district People’s Committee to hold two seminars with the participation of durian growers to build standards, regulations on trademark use and logo to complete registeration proceedings.
Monitored for many years, Khanh Son durians are highly appreciated with strong points such as yellow pulp, small pit and sweet-smelling. On January 6, 2011, the National Intellectual Property Office granted exclusive trademark certification to Khanh Son Durian with trademark No. 156623. Since then, Khanh Son Durian is protected legally. All the products have logo as a identification.
However, the certification’s term is only 10 years. Therefore, to preserve the trademark, Khanh Son Durian has stable quality. “The district will a specific plan to protect Khanh Son Durian trademark nationwide. In addition, the district Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is building measures to improve durians’quality more”, Nguyen Quoc Thinh said.
