Various cultural, sporting and tourism events will be held within the framework of the program themed “Beach and Island”. Truong Quang Nhat, Director of Department of Culture, Sport & Tourism said, “To prepare for the festival, dwelling establishments and hotels have been upgraded to improve their service quality.”

At present, Phu Yen has some 100 dwelling establishments, over 10 amusement parks which can serve 4,000 people at the same time. The organizing board of the opening ceremony has reserved accommodation at hotels at 3 stars or above to receive estimated 2,000 delegates.

The symbol of the National Tourism Year 2011in the South Central Coastal region is decorated with flowers.
Many sporting and cultural activities have been held in many local communities such as Song Hinh, Dong Hoa, Tuy An, Son Hoa, Dong Xuan, etc in the run-up to the festival. Phu Yen is now ready for the spectacular opening show to mark the National Tourism Year 2011 and 400th anniversary of its foundation. An 8,000 seat- stand has been set up in the 1-4 Square.

The 90-minute opening ceremony themed Beaches and Islands will include 2 parts singing the praise of the land and people of Phu Yen, introducing and promoting tourism development potentials and unique cultural and art heritages of Phu Yen and 7 other provinces in the South Central Coastal region. People’s Artist Le Ngoc Cuong is chosen as director of the performance.

The South Central Coast lies from Da Nang to Binh Thuan. All the provinces are well known for their exquisite poetic and imposing landscape with nice beaches such as Van Phong Bay, Dai Lanh Beach, Vung Ro, etc. On March 28, Phu Yen held a ceremony to recognize Xuan Dai Bay as a national landscape site.

However, sea-island tourism in the South Central Coast requires unique characteristics to outstand from other marine tourist locations. Over the past years, Nha Trang, Da Nang, Mui Ne, etc have invested in sea sports, including jet skiing, parasailing, boating, wind surfing, kayaking, etc to attract tourists. However, they are not sufficient. Traditional sea festivals of fishermen such as knitting fishing-nets, carrying fish, basket boats race, whale festival, which bear specific features and distinctive beauty of the region are required to be promoted.

Many special sea-island tourism activities are reported to be held in the National Tourism Year 2011 and 400th anniversary of foundation of Phu Yen. The events promise to help boost tourism development in the South Central Coast.
