A sculpture exhibition named “Spirit of the Highlands” by Artist K.Minh Tuan from Da Lat City has been inaugurated for the first time in Nha Trang City. The wood sculpture garden features the beauty of the land and people of the Highlands as well as their philosophy of life.

Sea Festival 2011 is a great opportunity for Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa Province to introduce distinctive cultural features as well as the relationship with other communities and countries through many activities, including exhibitions showcasing Cham culture, French culture exchange and Lu Cam porcelains.

The garden of statues displayed at the Nha Trang Beach Park (16 Tran Phu) is the highlight of the highlands cultural values shown at the Sea Festival 2011. 60 wood statutes made since 1995 express the relation between art and philosophy recognized through local residents’ daily activities, wishes and opinions about life.

“My statues are made of the Highlands wood carved in the Highlands residents’ style of sculpture full of sudden inspiration. They depict the vitality of the local culture,” said K.Minh Tuan.

Over 15 years working as a wood sculptor, Tran Duc Tuan has won many regional and local awards. His preoccupation is how to preserve the traditional culture of the ethnic minority groups of the Highlands.

K.Minh Tuan chooses Nha Trang to display his “properties” for the first time. “The difference between sea culture in Nha Trang and forest culture in Da Lat has added special attraction to my collection,” he added .

The garden of wood statues is among intriguing destinations for tourists and locals during the Sea Festival 2011.
