Motorized kites have been put into service in Nha Trang by Mai Linh Group. This is a kind of super light flying boat with high safety, bring tourists a new feeling to discover Nha Trang Bay from the sky.
° Motorized kite, a kind of super light flying boat
The Southern Central and Highlands Mai Linh Group has put 5 motorized kites into service. All parts of the kites are imported from Italy. “Motorized kites has appeared in the world for a long time, but in Vietnam, Mai Linh is the first importer of motorized kites”, said Ho Quang Minh, head of Mai Linh Motorized Kite Team.

To master this new technology, Mai Linh Group had Italian experts to train the team for one years. Then, the pilots had to spend another one-year training course given by the Ministry of National Defence.
A motorized kite is formed by three main parts, including wings, engine and a buoyant boat. The wings, made of nylon parachute fabric, have wingspan of 11.15 m in length and wingspan of 19.5 m2 surface. 64-horsepower Rotex 582 engine has wooden three-blade propellers. The buoyant boat is made of rubber. Each 216-kg kite has two seats for a pilot (front) and a passenger (back). It can carry a maximum weight of 460kg and fly at a maximum speed of 80km/h. So, it’s possible to say that this is a kind of super light flying boat. Additionally, all the motorized kites have sound attenuators and continuous monitoring of land.
° Highly safe to fly
Motorized kites are in high safety. Before flying, they are always checked over carefully by technicians and pilot. “We always replace parts of motorized kites when their service life ends even though they are still good. Each kite has two spark-plugs. In case one stops, the other will continue. As a result, safety is always ensured”, said Pilot Ta Van Trung.
Especially, if the engine breaks down when flying, the kite will alight by their wings and then their buoyant boat will get ashore safely.
With the above safe flying boat, tourists can see Nha Trang Bay’s landscape from the sky and feel secure about it. This new service is expected to be bring a new interest for tourists when coming Nha Trang.
