After 10 years of foundation (December 23, 2010) Cam Ranh Town has been recognized to be a city of Khanh Hoa Province. Together with the development of Khanh Hoa Province, Cam Ranh City has made the best of its resources to boost the socio-economic growth.

In early 19th century, Cam Ranh city used to be a deserted area with few people. Hundreds of years later, some villages appeared in some communities such as Hoa Tan, Lap Dinh, Thuy Trieu, Ba Ngoi, Cam Linh, Binh Ba, etc.

After the Liberation Day April 30, 1975, Cam Ranh became a district of Khanh Hoa Province and then a town in July 2000. After 10 years of foundation, on December 23, 2010, Cam Ranh Town officially was recognized to be a city of Khanh Hoa Province.

With an aim to be a center of economics, culture, science and technology of the southern Khanh Hoa, Cam Ranh City has taken full advantage of its potentials. Over the past years, cam Ranh City has seen stable growth with annual GDP up 19%, output value of industry up 22%, and trading and service up 12.1%.

The economic structure of Cam Ranh City has transferred in the direction of modernization and industrialization. In 2010, the industry and construction accounted for 57.6%, trade and service 22.3%, and agriculture, forestry and fishery 20.1% of the proportion of GDP.

Over the past 5 years, the economics of Cam Ranh has been on the sharp increase with great achievements. In 2004, the fisheries output value reached VND320 billion and fishery export turnover over USD21.3 million. In 2010, the export turnover hit USD32 million.

Together with economic growth, Cam Ranh City has seen great improvement in education, medical care, security and other social aspects creating favorable conditions for socio-economic growth. Over the past years, Cam Ranh City infrastructures have much developed.

Particularly, the fact that Cam Ranh Airport was upgraded into international airport, Cam Ranh Port into a key regional port together with many other big projects, including northern and southern Cam Ranh industrial zone, Ngoc Suong Tourist Site, Cam Lap Resort, Coopmart, Maximark, etc has contributed to creating a new image of Cam Ranh City.

Cam Ranh City has strived to become a center of economics, culture, science and technology of the southern Khanh Hoa and the southern central region of Vietnam. The newly- founded city has taken stable steps forward to build an image of a vibrant young city.
