Prices in September reduced speed over previous months. Many kinds of food have decreased in price.

. Pork, rice going down

Khanh Hoa Province’s CPI in September rose slightly by 0.24% over that in August. This was the lowest increase so far this year.

The group of restaurant service showed a 0.4% increase, which partly reduced the province’s CPI. Other groups such as traffic, housing, electricity, water, fuels and building materials dropped slightly by 0.4% - 0.5%.

Food price now has decreased by 0.2% over early September owning to the abundant supply. At markets, pork price fell by VND5,000 – VND10,000/kg. For example, lean meat now is selling at VND95,000/kg and rump meat at VND85,000 – VND90,000/kg.

“Pork now is not as scare as previous months. Epidemic diseases on pigs have been stamped out”, a retail seller at Xom Moi Market said.

Pork has decreased by VND5,000 - VND10,000/kg after continuous increases.

Poultry also saw a decrease in price. Semi-confine chicken price fell from VND110,000/kg to VND100,000/kg, industrial chicken price decreased from VND55,000/kg to VND50,000/kg and duck price dropped from VND90,000/kg to VND85,000/kg. Eggs of all kinds also decreased by VND1,000 – VND2,000/ten.

Rice saw a VND1,000/kg decrease over last week. Ordinary rice now costs VND11,000/kg and local glutinous rice at VND15,000/kg.

. Vegetable, fruits going up

However, vegetable and fruits increased sharply. Compared to mid September, tomato rose from VND10,000/kg to VND15,000/kg, cabbage from VND7,000/kg to VND8,000/kg, Hoa Loc sweet mango from VND45,000 to VND60,000/kg, watermelon from VND10,000/kg to VND13,000/kg, Nam Roi grapefruit from VND18,000/kg to VND20,000/kg, green skin grapefruit from VND35,000/kg to VND37,000 and durian from VND35,000 to VND40,000/kg.

“Increases in prices of vegetable and fruits are due to the abnormal weather, big vegetable  consumption and many fruits out of season”, said a small trader at Binh Tan Market.

Sugar price also soared by VND1,000 – VND3,000/kg over August. White refined-sugar is priced at VND24,000/kg, yellow refined-sugar at VND21,000/kg and sugar candy at VND26,000/kg.

Especially, import milk showed a sudden increase of 5% - 15% in mid September. For example, Frisolac is priced at VND268,500/900g can, Dumex Dugrow Gold 3 at VND337,000/800g can and Dutch Lady 456 at VND73,500/400g.
