Enterprises operating in the rural industry have contributed greatly to the socio-economic development as they have offered many jobs to rural people. However, many of the enterprises are facing difficulties and in need of support for survival and development.

Statistics show there are 3, 550 enterprises in Khanh Hoa operating in rural sectors, including agriculture, fishery, forestry, textile, garment, rattan weaving, mechanics, building material, wood furniture, etc.

Businesses processing and producing food, foodstuff, tiles and rattan products have survived the economic slowdown thanks to their active strategies and the availability of materials while those specializing in stone carving, salt and wood carving art products are operating moderately due to decreasing consumption for lack of improvement in designs.

Sedge mat and pottery manufacturing, and bronze casting have been increasingly retarded by the combined effects of rising production costs and diminishing demand.

Some 1,000 rural businesses in Ninh Hoa Town have created thousands of jobs while 800 rural enterprises in Cam Ranh City 5,000 jobs. However, many establishments are facing difficulties due to small-scale production, lack of capital and creative distribution channels. Tough sacrifices are being made to keep the companies afloat.

According to the plan, period 2011 – 2015, to continue the support to rural agricultural development, the project on amendment to rural agricultural development, period 2011 – 2020 will be carried out.

Support policies for traditional craft villages and rural agricultural establishments will be issued preserving and promoting the existing production of handicraft items, girdle cakes, fish sauce, wood carving art products and so on.

Tao Anh Tuan, Vice Director of the Department of Agriculture & Rural Development says rural agricultural establishments are struggling to survive.

More support from the government is required in vocational training, access to exhibitions, fairs, etc.
