Scooters have got price slash of VND2 – 5 million/unit due to poor sale in low season.

. Locally-made scooters cut prices

Scooters in Nha Trang market currently see a sharp decrease of VND2 – 5 million over 2 months ago. For example, Air Blade assembled by Honda Vietnam, which used to dominate the market with over VND50 million/unit and had gone down to VND44 – 46 million/unit for several months, now has dropped to VND40 million for a sports unit and VND38 million for a normal unit. Honda Lead, a favorite of women, has fell from VND39 million to VND36 million. Honda PCX also has reduced its price to VND58 million/unit.

SYM lowers price of some kinds of scooters. While normal Attila Elizabeth remains at VND30 million/unit, Attila Elizabeth EFI (Electronic Fuel Injection) has decreased from VND38.5 million/unit to VND36 million for a disc-brake unit and VND34 million for a drum-brake one. Attila Victoria has a stable price of VND27 million/unit.

Scooters find few buyers these days.

Yamaha Nouvo has cut price to VND36.5 – VND38 million/unit. However, Yamaha Exciter has climbed to VND51 million/unit, VND5 million higher than the previous month.

Contrary to the locally-made scooters, imported ones still show an increase of VND500,000 – VND2 million/unit in price due to the rise in USD/VND exchange rate. Specifically, Air Blade imported from Thailand has gone up by VND2 million/unit to VND70 million/unit. SCR imported from Japan remains at VND49 million/unit. Piaggio’s scooters such as Vespa LX and Liberty have no change in price.

. Poor sale

Poor sale accounts for the current drop in price of scooters. Most motorbike shops are trying to attract customers with lowered prices and promotional gifts. However, the market still seems quiet.

“Sale’s often down in the rainy season but it has declined deeply this year. I hope it will rise again when the low season ends. Then, the price will go up again”, a salesman at My Van Shop in Quang Trung Street, Nha Trang said.

“Economy’s difficult, people cut cost, therefore, scooter market has gone gloomy. Sometimes, our shop can’t sell anything during a week”, Tran Van Phong, a shop owner in Tran Quy Cap Street moaned.

This is a good time for those who have real need to buy scooters with good prices, he added.
