"Thanks to the local authorities' support in job creation for women, export rattan-bamboo handicraft has developed well in Ninh Quang (Ninh Hoa District), providing employment for many local women," said Tran Thi Thu Van, Chairwoman of Ninh Quang Commune Women's Association.
"After attending a course on rattan-bamboo handicraft, I opened my business in 2008. We produce many items, including hats, bags, baskets and so on. They are all selling well," said Nguyen Thi Thao, an owner of a rattan-bamboo handicraft enterprise.
According to Thao, the career does not require highly skilled techniques. Her enterprise delivers its products to Vinh Phuoc Collective.
"My problem is the shortage of capital to invest in materials while the local human resource is available in abundance. Therefore, I hope to have access to more preferential loans to expand my business," Thao added.
Her enterprise has created stable jobs for 150 women. According to Tran Thi Thu Van, there are over 2,400 women's association members, including 150 civil servants. Most of the women are poor farmers.
Under the local authority's support and direction, the commune women's association in cooperation with many vocational training centers has held vocational courses for hundreds of women.
In addition, the association has helped many people to have access to financial aid and loans to invest in business.
Currently, there are two big private rattan-bamboo handicraft enterprises in Ninh Quang employing hundreds of women.
The development of export rattan-bamboo handicraft has been a delighted signal for the improvement of living standards in Ninh Quang Commune.
