The ostrich droppings removal machine has saved much time and energy.

45ha Khatoco Ninh Hoa Ostrich Breeding Center is one of Vietnam’s leading ostrich breeding centers which produce ostriches and their products, including eggs, offspring and meat with over 10,000 ostriches.

During 8 years of operation, Khatoco Ninh Hoa Ostrich Breeding Center has always focused on mechanization and automation to reduce the amount of manual labor required for production.

Huynh Trung Son, Director of Khatoco Ninh Hoa Ostrich Breeding Center said, “The center used to employ many staff. However, the center has mechanized to meet the increasing demand in recent years."

Some modern machinery, including egg incubators, have been bought. The staff's initiatives have proved to be practical and profitable. Some have been put into use bringing an annual profit of some hundreds of millions dongs.

Ostriches mainly feed on seeds, shrubs, grass, fruit and flowers; occasionally they also eat insects. Bui Tien Dat, Chief of Green Food Production Group, has had an initiative on using water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) as food for ostriches as a sustainable solution to the lack of local green food sources, especially from September to March. His initiative has saved the center over VND250 million/year.

Another employee named Le Thanh Thien has invented ostrich droppings removal machine from a broken-down rice harvester. The machine has saved time and energy in cleaning up the excrement of wildlife. The initiative has been kicked off since 2010, saving over VND23 million/ year.

Functional and technical improvements in production have promoted gains in dynamic efficiency, thus lowering the cost of production.
