. Swimming in winter
“Weather in Nha Trang is wonderful, not cold like my country now. I can swim or sunbathe on the beach and stroll the streets every time. This is the first time I’ve come to Nha Trang and I will stay here longer than planned to discover the city”, said Kuchunova Irina from Krasnoyarsk.
The number of Russian arrivals to Nha Trang has soared since Pegas Turistik travel firm opened direct flights from nine cities of Far Eastern Russia to Cam Ranh Airport.

According to the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, 40,000 Russian tourists came to Nha Trang in 2011, a 50% rise over 2010. “Russian tourists like warm climate, beautiful beach and good resorts in Nha Trang. Additionally, prices in Vietnam are low and food is delicious. Good relationship between the two countries also partly impulses tourism”, said Hoang Thi Phong Thu, general director of Anh Duong Company, partner of Pegas Turistik.
Russian tourists often spend two weeks in Nha Trang. Some families even stay a month to enjoy the tropical warmness and water games in the city. Most of them are high spenders.
‘As the number of tourists from the US and Europe is decreasing due to the economic crisis, the increase of Russian tourists is very meaningful to Khanh Hoa’s tourism. The province will develop this market stably”, said Truong Dang Tuyen, manager of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
. Tourism busier
Russian tourists also make the city have some changes. Some Russian restaurants have been opened, namely Checkpoint and Russian House. Many restaurants have signs and menus in Russian language. Some even have been decorated with Russian dolls or pictures and some have Russian songs. Vietnamese people in restaurants and hotels also have learned Russian language a little bit to speak with Russian tourists.
Big hotels have brochures in Russian but few employees know Russian. This year, Russian Christmas have been celebrated at Sunrise Hotel for the first time.

Nha Trang – Khanh Hoa has become well-known in Russia now. More and more Russians have booked tours to Nha Trang. Currently, there is a direct fight from Russian to Nha Trang each day. Anh Duong Company and Pegas Turistik are planning to raise by four flights each week.
Vietnam Airlines also has announced to change two flights on the route Moscow – Ho Chi Minh City to the route Moscow – Nha Trang. Accordingly, Nha Trang will have more chance to welcome tourists from the whole Russia. Russian winter is hoped to be “spring” of Khanh Hoa tourism.
