Ngoi Ngan bridge is located on Nguyen Hue in Van Khanh Commune, a main route linking communes eastern of Van Ninh District, Khanh Hoa Province. A new bridge sponsored by Japanese government is going to be built.
Built a long time ago, the bridge is very old and badly damaged, thus it is very dangerous for passing through.
"The wooden bridge was made in 1940. Its planks were replaced in 1990. At present, the bridge is very old. Some parts of its wooden “floor” have gone missing.
Many accidents have happened here. Some travelers with vehicles have fallen into the river below," said Ho Van Cao, a resident living near the old bridge.
VND30 million was invested in its new planks in 1990. The project to build a new bridge was created years ago, but nothing have been done due to lack of capital.
The old bridge in a bad condition has obstructed local transport and socio-economic development. The bridge definitely needs to be replaced. Reconstruction of the bridge is an urgent necessity for convenient and safe transport.
However, the bridge is still in use for a long time due to lack of funding for reconstruction.
The Department of Transport has just issued a document on the construction of a new bridge. The project funded by the Japanese government was under the project management board No. 2, Vietnam Road Administration (Ministry of Transport).
The construction is scheduled to begin in the 3rd quarter of 2012, says Vu Thi Lua, Chairman of Van Khanh Commune People's Committee.
The newly reconstructed bridge will secure safer and smoother traffic and socio-economic development in the community.
