Khanh Hoa to be built as fishing center of Southern Central

According to Vietnam Fishery Development Strategy till 2020 adopted by the Prime Minister, the country will set up 5 fishing centers. Khanh Hoa has chosen to become the fishing center in the Southern Central region.

The Southern Central region, including provinces of Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan, have advantages and potentials to develop marine economy. The region has a chain associated by fishing, processing and aquaculture.

Southern Central fishery market iis the biggest logistic fishing center in the region.

In recent years, fishing in the Southern Central region has improved strongly capacity and scale and mechanization.

Additionally, research bases such as Institute of Oceanography , Aquaculture Research Institute III and Nha Trang University in Khanh Hoa Province have supported aquaculture in fresh, brackish and salt waters in the region. Main bred kinds are shrimp, lobster, grouper, pearl, crab, seaweed, holothurian and abalone.

At present, the Southern Central region has nearly 100 seafood processing factories, 44 of which are located in Khanh Hoa.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Khanh Hoa features 6 standards to become a regional fishing center, including 1. Natural conditions, geographical position. 2. Resource and market attraction and chain linking to elevate seafood’s values. 3. Unity of policies, strategies and plannings. 4. Human resource. 5. Role of fishery economy to the region’s economy and national defence. 6. Risk evaluation.

The fishing center is formed based on upholding potentials and advantages of geographical position, national conditions, infrastructure system and resources with the aim to set up an active fishery economy developing region with a                                                                                                                                                                      high and sustainable growth rate. Accordingly, Khanh Hoa along with other provinces in the region will support each other to develop fishing stably.
