In Cam Lam District, many households are cultivating mushrooms and Nguyen Minh Nhat is developing a safe mushroom cultivation model.

In 2011, he was offered a loan for his two farms of mushroom, which was sold for VND70,000/kg. Supply did not meet demand and he received many orders.

Then he decided to ask for a further VND20 million loan to expand his production in his 32m2/farm with 1,000-1,200 mushroom bags.

Nhat and another farmer named Hoang Van Thuan in the same village have founded a safe mushroom growers' group with an initial income of over VND100 million/year. 5 people have joined the group so far.

Nhat has two mushroom crops a month with a capacity of 70kg/farm, which brings him a profit of VND7 million/farm a month.

He says, growing safe mushroom is not difficult. No fertilizers or pesticides are used, so the quality is higher with less cost.

The capacity has increased twice or thrice compared with the previous crop. The safe mushrooms are popular and selling well.

Do Minh Thanh, Party Committee Secretary, Chairman of the commune People’s Committee says, “This is a productive and profitable cultivation model. In the time to come, we will expand the production to other farmers.”

According to Nguyen Lai, Chairman of Cam Lam District Farmers’ Association, safe straw mushrooms are being grown in 3 communes. A VND100 million loan has been offered to the mushroom growers' group. The association has also mobilized many farmers to learn and exchange cultivation techniques.”
