Banking expected to get better in 2013

Overcoming challenges, many banks in Vietnam achieved good business result in 2012. This year, banking is forecast to get better despite countinuous difficulties.

Agribank, playing main role in the rural finance, got VND480,453 billion in total loans in 2012 (rising by VND36,576 billion over 2011), including VND320,075 billion from agricultural and rural lending (making up 70%).

VietinBank also reported a good business result in 2012, as follows: charter capital: VND26,218 billion, total assets: VND505,000 billion, credit loans: up 13.3%, capital: 9.4%, bad debit rate: 1.35%, profit before tax: VND8,213 billion.

BIDV’s figures in 2012 were total assets: VND497,827 billion, deposits: VND360,167 billion, credit loans: VND324,218 billion, bad debit control: 2.77%, risk provision: VND6,730 billion and profit before tax: VND4,246 billion.

Vietcombank also got a high profit of VND5,707 billion in 2012. Up to now, this bank has VND414,549 billion in total assets, VND41,988 billion in equity, VND239,804 in credit loans and VND302,624 billion in mobilized capital.

Representatives of the above big banks showed their hope about active change of banking system in 2013. President of Agribank Member’s Council Nguyen Ngoc Bao said that Agribank would continue expanding and improving credits in agriculture and rural areas in 2013. The bank is stepping up mobilizing capital to reach a credit growth of 12% in agriculture and rural areas. It aso targets at a rise of 11 – 13% in deposits and 9 – 11% in loans.

BIDV strives for an increase of 16.5% in deposits, a rise of 12% in credit loans and a bad debit rate of 3%.

Vietcombank reveals to forward retail banking, aiming to raise up its total assets by 15%, its credit by 15 – 16% and its dividend payout ratio by 12%.

Accordingly, banking in the country in 2013 is forecast to get better than the previous year.
