After a long time being stabilized, prices of many products have seen increases recently.
Many products increase price
In markets, many kinds of vegetable see sharp increase in price. For example, lettuce has risen from VND15,000 – VND20,000/kg to VND25,000 – VND45,000/kg; lemon has increased from VND14,000 – VND20,000/kg to VND35,000 – VND40,000/kg and spinach has gone up from VND3,000/bunch to VND5,000/bunch. Only prices of mangoes and watermelons have fallen as they are in main harvest.
Other products such as processed food, household things and cosmetics also have increased. Pham Van Chinh, owner of a grocery store in 23-10 Street said that producers have just raised prices by 3 – 10% due to the rise in input expenses of electricity, water, petrol and oil. For example, cooking oil has gone up by VND2,000/bottle, fish sauce by VND2,000/liter, instant noodle by VND15,000 – VND25,000/box
Co.opmart Cam Ranh’ s representative reveals that some products of milk also saw 4 – 5% increase.
Hot weather also makes prices of air-conditioners, fridges and fans rise by 5 – 10%. Nguyen Hoang Tu, head of Refrigeration Department of Le Van Electronic Store said that suppliers of some famous trademarks such as Panasonic, Toshiba and Dakin have raised their prices by 2 – 10%.
. Promotions to stimulate demand
In the situation of rising prices, supermarkets have launched many promotional programs to stimulate purchase. According to Pham Hoang Hung, director of Co.opmart Cam Ranh, with the promotional program on the occasion of Co.opmart’s birthday, the supermarket’s sales in April rose by 30% as usual. Metro Nha Trang and Maximark Nha Trang also have many offers, mainly on household articles, cosmetics and food. The promotion was 10 – 45%.
Electronic stores also launches some promotions such as enclosed gifts, free delivery, draw for prizes or direct discount on prices of products, even those for hot season.
