Consumers are facing with the high increase in prices of vegetable and fruits and unsafety of some kinds imported from China.

. Many kinds go up

Current price of vegetable at markets in Nha Trang has a sharp rise of 10% - 30% over several previous weeks. For example, cucumber has increased to VND12,000/kg, cabbage: VND15,000/kg, French bean: 15,000/kg, salad: VND30,000 – VND40,000/kg, potato: VND25,000/kg. The increase in price of such kinds of vegetable is the unfavorable weather condition in Da Lat and their high demand in summer.

Some kinds of vegetable grown in the province such as water morning glory and basella alba also have gone up by VND1,000/bunch. Some other kinds such as onion, ginger and saffron have increased by 4% - 10%.

Prices of some fruits also see slight rise due to the hot weather and big demand. For example, orange and mandarin have increased by about VND5,000/kg.

Besides, seafood price has risen deeply over last month. For instance, shrimp has gone up by VND50,000/kg to VND350,000/kg; squid: VND550,000 – VND650,000/kg, mackerel: VND160,000 – VND190,000/kg. The reason is that the rough sea limits fishing while seafood is in much demand at present when Nha Trang tourism is in peak season.

. Be careful when buying vegetable and fruits

At present, consumers often worry when buying vegetable and fruits as there are so many Chinese products which are unsafe with high preservative content. Accordingly, the sales of some products such as ginger, potato, orange, grape, apple and pear have dropped sharply.

Otherwise, the deep rise in prices along with consumers’ save have pulled purchase down by 20% - 30% over the same period last year.
